Fred Smith

CEO

Fred originally started in the construction industry as a brick layer.

From here he went to WITS University and worked there in the business of importing supplies for them.
He then went on to become a specialised insurance salesman, and assisted in founding one of the first black brokers.
In the 1980's he returned to the construction industry as a subcontractor working on major housing and building projects.
In 1990, Fred became a specialist in the Petrochemical industry.

Fred is the quality control and project manager for the housing construction, renovations, and petrochemical projects together with Delano. Fred checks that the highest possible standard of work is achieved and supervises and distributes work.

 

Linda Sandra Smith

Financial Manager

Linda comes from a secretarial and account background. She has lots of experience in bookkeeping and as an assistant accountant.
Linda also has lots of experience in retail management. Together Linda and Fred purchased a supermarket, a bakery and several fast food outlets. This acted as a springboard for them.
In 1996 Linda and Fred opened a Building Supplies and Hardware store. This Company’s primary focus is suppling small building contractors, and the public, with hardware materials on a cash basis.
This company is still operational and running with good success. Linda is still very involved in both the retail side (the store), and the building side of business.
Linda holds certificates in Bookkeeping, and Estate Agency Diploma, various computer training courses, and a Diploma in Business management.
Linda serves on several committees. She does marketing and serves as both an Executive Director and Director.
Linda was a finalist in the 1997 Shoprite Checkers / SABC 3 Women of the world award (business category)
She has travelled to Belgium on ‘the Gazelle Programme’ for management training Linda was also selected to go to Germany in 1997 for being one of the members of ‘The Sowetho Hardware Business People’.
Linda serves on the Committee of South African Woman Entrepreneurs Network.
Linda was also on the Task Team for the Construction Charter.
She is on the Committee at Nafcoc JCCI Chamber of Commerce.

Genevieve Smith

Marketing

Genevieve matriculated in the year 2002 with an exemption.

She then successfully completed a certificate in The Basics of Business through UNISA in 2003
In 2004 she successfully completed a Diploma in Management Principles at Varsity College.
In 2005 while being employed by LFS, Genevieve also did a course in (BSSA) Certificate in Business Skills for South Africa sponsored by Sasol Oil.
She started with her B-com Degree at UNISA in Management and Marketing and successfully completed her degree in 2008 and will be graduating in 2009.
Genevieve was employed by L.F.S. Hardware and Building Projects throughout her studies, firstly on a part time basis and then on a full time basis.
During this period Genevieve had the opportunity of empowering herself with knowledge, different skills and communication skills in the working environment by being employed in different positions.

Her Achievements
Genevieve had an awesome opportunity with a sponsorship from a company abroad namely Ideal Shield to job shadow, their Junior Executives for a period of a two weeks.

This experience has broadened her knowledge in working as a Junior Executive in an international company.  Genevieve is very excited to put theory into practice at LFS Group and to take the company to greater heights.

Rudy Smith

Logistics & Sales

Rudy Completed matric in 1987 with a University exemption
In.1987 -1989 Entered into the work market at Checkers Head Office as a Data capturer.
1990-1993 Joined LFS Building Projects as an apprentice foreman in bricklaying and plastering.  Mastered the apprentice ship successfully and became a full time Foreman.
1994 – 1996 he entered into the retail market in a managerial position at the, The Fruit Den Supermarket. During this transition he had the opportunity to learn successful entrepreneurial skills.
He gained an immense amount of knowledge, leadership skill, innovations as well as public relations
1997 – 1999 he decided to put his entrepreneurial skills to the test and opened his own construction company and subcontracted for LFS Building Projects.
2000 an awesome opportunity was presented and Rudy purchased the Fruit Den Supermarket. He immediately started implementing new ideas and restructuring the whole concept after doing market research. The Supermarket grew to a new level and jobs were created in the process. Once the Fruit Den was at its peak, he made a decision to sell it to a younger couple to take it to the next level.
He then entered into the property market as an Estate Agent for First Reality for the following year.
In 2009 Rudy re-joined LFS for an exciting new position in Logistics and Sales

 

Delano Smith

Site Manager

Delano is the site manager together with the two site foreman and Fred. Delano joined us in 2000 and started at the bottom of the company. We are very proud of how much Delano has achieved in our company and hope that one day he will take over from Fred.

Delano is constantly learning and going on courses to improve his knowledge, stay up to date with technology and safety practices.

Delano has done the courses on Global Marketing Safe Work Practice including:

General Work Permit

Hot Work – Welding
Gas Detection
Confined Space Entry
Isolation
Working at a height
Excavation

He is completing a Diploma NQ4 through a Leaner ship. He started in January 2008 and is due to complete it in February 2010
